Look at beautiful and glorious 80’s Internet. And look at that early version of a pub review site - maybe a building block for Untappd, yeah?
Here is the video from the BBC Archives, of some people trying a local beer and then posting their thoughts of it on a pub review site:
Some notes after watching:
How FREAKING awesome is the name “The Barley Mow” for a pub!?!?
Also:
Did you see that first dude POUND that beer?!
How cringeworthy was that host’s comment “It’s a bit unusual for ladies to get their fist around a pint.”
I wish I could try a Victory Bitter.
“Nice and sharp” is my new favorite way to review a beer and I will be using it a lot from here on.
Sweet 8-Bit glory. I miss the old data and info heavy Internet.*sigh*
Just Call Everything IPAs Already!
First, restaurants called craft beer “imports”. Now we’re switching to calling them IPAs:
It’s always a bit of fun when restaurants don’t know how to deal with the beer menu.
More Beer Explosions!!
As brilliant as this illustration is by @pintsandpanels, it also made me think we are overhyping exploding fruit and sour beer cans. Like, it’s barely happening yet certain sections of Beer Instagram and Beer Twitter make it feel like an epidemic.
@beercruncer beat me to the thought:
Side note: While I would not want to be hurt or whatever, the thought that a can could explode in my face as I attempt to open it, sounds kind of exciting.
Links Of Note
I discovered a new-to-me post by Brussels Beer City “27 Brussel Words For Drinking and Getting Drunk” and it’s a fun deep-dive. Go read it, ya Tonneklinker.
I read a very funny spoof of brewery tours and trust fund/failed tech bros that open breweries. (Or as I like to call them “Bro Breweries”)
I recently wondered if beer drinking habits change depending on what part of town you live. (Spoiler: I figured out nothing)
Have A Sharp Week!
Thank you some much for the read. Hope you are better off than me this weekend as I have to work. But not to worry, I’ll be sure to still get my fist around a nice sharp beer or two when I get home.
Cheers! 🍻👏🤘

“Late check in” this one reminded me of MacLoedAles! Cask pours, thick punter glasses, English/Scottish accents all around me, the aroma of barley/malts and the crunch of peanut shells on the floor! Thanks Mikey, haven’t visited MacLeods in a year or so, got to go back! Cheers
