On the blog this week, I attempt to make you and myself feel better about always wanting to try a new beer and ignoring the solid beers that have been there for us.
We aren’t being fickle or selfish or disrespectful. We are being curious.
Beer folk are curious creatures, always wondering what the next beer might taste like. So, don’t feel bad?
Whatever kind of beer you want to put in place of that (what appears to be Augustiner) it reminds me of the relentless grumbling about IPAs from brewers and how we should be all drinking clean Lagers.
We Can Drink Our Way To Pub Prosperity!
I believe in you, Britain!
If there is some sort of drinking I can do from this side of the pond that would help, let me know.
I’ll Be Boak, You Be Bailey
I’m feeling a bit thin on content this week so I’d like to again direct you across the pond to another beer newsletter that is quite good, Boak & Bailey.
Their issue this week in particular because it has a link to and breakdown of Notch Brewing’s, @ratmegnet, massive posting of stories of men in the beer industry being terrible.
There is also a great reminder from Anthony Gladman on how to review a beer, that speaks to me; you should be writing reviews for your future self:
[What] if there is no audience other than your future self? In that case, you need to concentrate on what matters most to you. And you can use all the shorthand you want, as long as you’re confident of remembering what it means next week, next month, in five years… But again I think it’s worth spending a little time trying to set down a few words that also capture how you felt about the beer. What did it remind you of? Where would you want to drink this beer? Who would you want to drink it with? If you write better tasting notes, you’ll find that it’s easier to remember that particular beer when you read them again in the future.
People that scoff at Untappd, I try to tell them just use it for letting your future self know that you tried a certain beer and what you really thought of it, how it made you feel and junk.
Does Reggie Like Beer?
Mr. October, Hall of Fame baseball great, Reggie Jackson, randomly followed me on Twitter this week.
While I am a big Oakland A’s fan, I don’t really show that on my beer account, and Reggie doesn’t follow everyone that follows him (like some accounts do), so it leaves me wondering why my first sports hero is following me.
I have a rising suspicion that he could be into beer. I’ll do more investigating and report back later.
Well, thank you for the read this week. I hope you find all your beers to be sharp and you tell your future self about them.
Cheers! 🤟✌️🤘🍻

Pretty funny stuff Mikey!! I feel like our lives revolve around finding the next “special” beer. 🍻
Btw, I’m not a big baseball fan but the few games we did go to when I was a kid we’re always the Angels, so we got to see Reggie play when I was in Jr. High. Definitely fun to hear the crowds and the chants. Good times!! ⚾️
