STONED While Drinking Mustard Beer
Ohhh, you know, just trying to write the best beer newsletter out there
No, that picture is not a joke. That’s a real beer, out today. A collab between Oskar Blues and French’s Mustard. It’s a “tropical wheat ale”, Paste has a review here. If it’s okay with you, I want to try it.
Dude. To me, Craft Beer is supposed to be fun. This kind of Gimmick Beer is fun. It’s not like it’s some brewery that doesn’t know what the hell it’s doing. I trust Oskar Blues to make sure it at least tastes decent.
I hope to find one in Fresno and report back to you.
Beer Twitter Hates Stone Brewing’s Greg Koch. A lot.
(comic by @beerbecue7)
The latest reason for the hatred is Stone Brewing’s battle with Kentucky’s Sawstone Brewing over the use of STONE. Stone Brewing, owns the Copywrite on Stone.
Stone Brewing. Sawstone Brewing. Pretty similar?
Sawstone popped up on Stone’s radar at a bad time. Stone is in the middle of a legal battle with KeySTONE because Keystone over-marketed “stone”.
So then Stone Brewing has no real choice but to say something like “Bro. Not now, Sawstone. We’re doing a thing over here and it would look bad if we ignored you calling yourself Sawstone at a time we’re trying to convince a judge that Keystone sucks.”
Then Sawstone fans get all squirrely and started harassing Stone Brewing. That’s when it popped up on Greg Koch’s radar and he felt the need to respond to it all with a VERY Greg blog post.
That was enough for the cool kids of Beer Twitter to drag Greg some more.
Even a beer has been spawned:
This whole thing sucks.
Stone is in the business of being a Big Beer in Craft Beer and is run by a CEO that isn’t even from Craft Beer. Sawstone is a little dude trying to make a name who shoulda thought this could happen.
Both have some blame. Neither side is clean. It’s just the nature of business and we like to think Craft Beer is above it. But sometimes it’s hard to avoid.
GORGEOUS CAN ALERT!
Mother Mary that shade of red, and the river and the logo, oh my, beautiful. Burgeon makes damn fine beer too. Hope I get to add this to my can collection, somehow. If you live in California you can have Burgeon shipped to you. Check it here.
I Did Not Think I Would Referencing Steam In This Newsletter
I might actually try to play something on Steam for the first time. The game is called “Dude, Where’s My Beer?” and you can put it on your Steam “wishlist” so you can play it when it becomes available.
The main character navigates the hipster beer geek world, just trying to get a nice cold Pilsner:
Beer Garden Of The Week
I don’t know if the picture has been doctored but it’s a nice looking spot either way.
If I ever find myself in Australia, I’m looking Great Hops up.
Thanks for reading issue #10 of Drinking & Thinking. Keep safe out there!
