Craft Beer has still got it. At least when there is a smallish release from Russian River involved.
RR brought back their popular limited-release IPA, Pliny For President, and sent it out for distribution. They didn’t send out much. Limited availibitly.
So when it hit my favorite spot to get Russian River beers, The Market, I was there. Only I wasn’t. I was at work when the beer arrived on the shelf.
That’s okay. It’ll only be a few hours until I am off. There should be plenty of time to get a bottle or two.
Only there wasn’t. There was only a dry hole (seen above).
Sadness wershed over The Dude:
I asked the head of the liquor department if there were any in the back. No dice. Maybe some more next week, but they were cleaned out today.
I missed the window. It sucked, but there was also good happening.
Good knowing Craft Beer has life to it when a release can still sell out so quickly. Maybe everything is going to be okay. Being deprived of things is good, yeah?
But this story has a twist.
As I was paying for my groceries, the liquor department dude came running up to me “I found one!” as he revealed a bottle of Pliny For President.
“You still want it?” he said.
“Oh hell yeah” said I.
The Beer Gods did me a solid. And Craft Beer was alive and well, at least for a moment at the register of a Fresno grocery store.
Oh, and by the way, it’s fantastic this year. Maybe better than last time. Amazing aroma, hop flavors pop in all the right places. Hope to find another bottle or can lying around in the back.
Thank you for opening this week. Enjoy your week with a relaxing beer or three and I wish you all the luck finding your limited-run beers.
