Welcome to Drinking & Thinking. What do we want to talk about this week? Hard pours, music and terroir sound good.
Drinking From Home
A new trend for me I started this week is pouring my beers hard. Embracing the foam. I know the one above doesn’t have that big of head, but I tried super hard and that is the most foam I could get out of it - damn hazzies.
When you first start entering the beer drinking world, they teach you to do the Perfect Pour (sounds like a cool podcast 😉), with the tilting of the glass and stuff, so there is just a little bit of a head.
But many people think it’s better to enjoy the foam and let the beer get rid of all the gas, so it doesn’t fill up your gut.
I just play it by feel and right now I’m feeling foamy.
Music to Beer With
I dunno, man, I definitely must be getting old, today I am recommending having a beer with a Van Morrison song or two. I never have given Van much thought. He’s some dude my uncle probably likes, not me. But I heard this one today and it got me. Pair with a reflective mood and a strong IPA.
If you need a boost after that, might I recommend:
The Ramones’ sound is so adorable at this point. Just fun. Pair with some bitterness and letting go of bad energy, like this dude is:
Okay, now it’s full session time. This is a good one to play on your TV with the volume cranked. Have a beer before you start, then have a few during the show - it’ll be like you’re at a show but with way cheaper beer…
Ladies & gentlemen, live from Germany, it’s Queens of the Stone Age!:
(This show is super fresh from yesterday!)🤘🎶
Links To Beer - I Can Taste the Smog
Beer Twitter has had a bit of bickering the past week or two about whether you can get terroir off a beer.
I say yes - with little to no knowledge of how terroir works (mostly a wine thing that incorporates the region’s climate into the flavor).
I want to believe a beer can have this, so I will. It feels better thinking I can taste the soul of a town by having one of its beers.
Get some real thoughts over at Boak & Bailey with this post (starts on the second paragraph).
Just Let Dad Be Dad - It’s All He Wants
Happy Father’s Day (with a shout out to all the cool uncles that listen to Van Morrison), I hope it’s a great one for you. Thank you for the read, enjoy the music rabbit holes, and may all your beers be fresh! 🙏

Peace ✌️ Beer 🍻 & Metal 🤘
Van Morrison, I remember rocking 😎 out to his song "Wild Night" at my first high school dance with a belly full of (don't tell anyone 😉) Coors beer. I'll never forget that night (fall 71). Love his music actually more now than back in the day.
