Welcome to Drinking & Thinking! I hope you find more beer around the corner after reading.
You may have noticed I changed the font. I like it. Fits the intended vibe of the newsletter more. I know it’s a little uncomfortable at first, but I hope it’s cool with you.
Let’s Just Call It Septemberfest
This year I finally went the extra mile and did a simple Google search for the question: “Why do all the Oktoberfest things seem to happen in September?”
This Vinepair article has the answer:
Oktoberfest starts in September because its final day has a fixed spot on the calendar. The last day of the festival is always on the first Sunday of October. As Oktoberfest has grown in popularity and stature, organizers have worked backward to capitalize on September’s warmer weather.
I have been putting off that five second Google search for about 15-years, feels good to finally know.
How To Fall In Love With Beer Again
I did a post (inspired by a @BeerBabe question) to try and figure out how, if you’re kinda sick of beer, to fall in love with it again. These are the things I filtered it down to:
Drink some of your old favorite beers. Spend some time doing it.
Reset your palate. Drink stuff you never would normally drink. Weird styles. Even drink BAD beer.
Enjoy the good people around beer. Don’t overthink what you are drinking.
Watch other people enjoying beer. Brew some beer on your own.
Take a break. Simply don’t drink a damn thing for a while.
Focus on having the right beer with your food and go down a charcuterie cutting board hole.
Good luck!
Cheers To
Respect to @Ratmagnet for what she has done to shine the spotlight on the beer industry being a difficult place for females to work in. You can’t blame her for leaving after putting herself out there like that. Good luck and forever Cheers!🍻
Beer Twitter Question Of The Week
My answer to this age-old question was handled already:
Always always Sierra Nevada Pale. If not, a simple craft Lager if the person is afraid of anything bitter (I know Sierra Pale isn’t bitter to us but maybe it is to an innocent).
[rolls eyes to back of head] Oh fucking hell, you beer hipsters can’t shut the fuck up about Allagash White, can you!? I feel like anything with Belgian yeast would be a FUCKING AWFUL thing to push on a newb drinker, but that’s just me. If they say they liked it they were just being nice.
Es Good, No?
I am not a fan of Costco. But I am a big fan of CZECH COSTCO!! 🎉
I dunno if this is there in the isle all the damn time or it’s just an Oktoberfest thing but I love it either way.
Links To Beer
A full breakdown of what we are drinking by Gallup. Don’t worry, it’s ok, we still enjoy drinking beer.
Something we have all noticed for some time, comic style graphic art is helping sell beers.
If you’re looking to fine-tune your Lager glassware knowledge, here is a thing for you.
Where the hell did the whole concept of beer styles even come from? Beervana Blog has the info.
An Extra Day Of Drinking?
I drank this El Segundo beer while writing part of this issue. It was a good price and a nice enough IPA. It was a label-buy too.
I would like to thank you for reading this and supporting D&T. I hope your labor has given you too a three day weekend to try some good beers!
