Getting Cranky In My Old Beer Age

All those beers above are drain-pours. Not because they were bad, necessarily, just because they were old.

I had been saving them for a “rainy day” or when company came over that didn’t care how old the beer tasted and just wanted a beer.

Finally I got tired of looking at them and tossed ‘em. And right now I am really REALLY done with not-so-fresh tasting beer.

If it’s a Pale or IPA related beer and it’s more than five weeks old? I want nothing to do with it. Grrrrr [shakes fist at clouds]

Oktoberfest in Munich would have started today, 9/18, if not for Covid. Canceling the fest was the right move, of course, but it's still sad. And it got me wondering if, when, and why Munich's Oktoberfest has been canceled before. Turns out it's a lot. A #beerhistory thread...

But in 1854 cholera struck Munich (& much of Europe). City health officials tried ignoring it and guess what? 7,700 people died of cholera that summer, including Queen Therese, whose marriage kicked off this whole Oktoberfest thing. So yeah, fest canceled that year.

I Have Been Lookin’ Out For These Beers And They’re Here!

Due to budget and calorie restraints I had not been drinking much these past couple weeks. But I got paid yesterday so I got to splurge a little giving me the beer-haul you see above.

I have started by going through some of the “Stoked!” Pales and the Trillium/Alvarado Street colabs “My Name Is JC” and “My Name Is Also JC” beers. All of them excellent and FRESH!
