Nick, on the Perfect Pour this week, told a little story of encountering a pallet of Heady Topper in the local (Fresno) Total Wine.
Kinda random. Sorry I missed it (I assume it’s all gone now).
That got me thinking of the name of the beer. HEADY. TOPper.
Head of a beer. It’s the TOPper of a beer.
Heady. Topper.
Like, pour a beer with a good head on it and “That’s a nice, heady top for your beer there.”
Wow. I am so stupid.
That is the first time I put it together like that. I just thought it was some Vermont-y name.
There is a great VinePair article about the whole history of The Alchemist brewery.
We opened the pub November 29, 2003, a Friday night, and Saturday morning we found out we were having a baby. So our first 24 hours were pretty crazy. And, really, I feel like we haven’t lifted our heads and looked around since. It’s one crazy turn after another.
It’s a nice read so check it out. Now I am inspired to try and find some Heady today.
Drinking Digest: Wet Beers Edition
If I don’t find any Heady, I at least have the beers pictured above to drink today.
I drank these yesterday:
As you can see, it has been raining here the past couple days and it got me thinking about if wet weather is better for beer drinking than sunshine and puffy clouds.
Normally I am all about sunny and warm. Patio and poolside. THAT is good drinking weather!
But wait. When the weather is nice, I do feel like I need to be doing something around the house. Fixing something. Painting something. Trimming something. Doing shit.
So the to-do-list guilt is like white-noise running in the background of my beers.
But when it is wet out, that guilt is gone. “Nope, too rainy to get anything done today, let’s crack open some beers!!”
So, rainy day drinking wins for today. Though I am betting I will be sick of it soon.
Thank you for the read. Stay safe dry out there. Hope you find some good toppers.
