Drinking Westies on the West Coast
Hi there.
Man, I am late to Drink & Think today, was out drinking last night - a rarish treat. It soaked up a lot of my writing time.
I am good now, got that out of my system. Looking forward to some at-home-drinking today. Although a brewery visit to pick up some beer, doesn’t sound too terrible - even though it will be 110 degrees today.
Watching With Beer
There is some nice buzz about the Wham! documentary on Netflix - I like a nice well done documentary with some good 6.5% IPAs. While I was never actually a Wham! fan, they were so much apart of the culture of an 80s kid like me, I am sure to find it interesting.
Anchor Drama Still Fermenting
Now the workers at Anchor are looking into acquiring the brewery and making it a co-op. Beer God’s Speed to them. Check out
reporting on it too. What Is Your Westcoast IPA?
The Beer Twitter thread of the week came from Jeff Alworth as he asked
“I’m curious what the term “West Coast IPA” means to people in 2023. When you see that style on a menu, what do you expect?”
There are a lot of responses of ‘pine’. A little bit of pine is okay but I feel like that is Northwest’s version of a West Coast.
To me a WCIPA is more like Southern California’s IPAs: Clean, light grapefruit and citrus in general, with just a touch of pine. Russian River might do the style the best.
Speaking of, here is a nice video of Craft Beer Channel making a beer with Vinnie from Russian River:
Welp. That’s all I have for now. I really appreciate the read and the subscribe. I hope you have a great week with your West Coasts, East Coasts, Mid Wests, and whatever damn style you like.
