Thanks for being here. You are going to have a great time with your beers this week, I can feel it.
Some Things I Did With A Beer Next To Me This Week
Watched “Andor”. The new Star Wars series on Disney+, a sorta prequel to Rogue One, is very good. It is probably the least Star Wars-y thing that has been released (in large part due to Tony Gilroy’s writing), so you would think I wouldn’t like it for that. But the excellent writing, acting and directing, make up for the muted references to being a “Star War”. A series good with IPAs, Stouts or Bavarian Lagers.
Listened to Alice In Chains.
It has been 30 years since the release of AIC’s legendary album, “Dirt”. I became a fan after seeing them open for Van Halen while touring behind their debut “Facelift”. Dirt was the first album of theirs I got to enjoy buying on the day it was released. My friends/roommates and I played that album every damn day for about a year.
Goes well with DIPAs.
Gazed at Jupiter.
I have a kinda busted telescope. But it works well enough that I was able to catch some good Jupiter moments with a Hazy in hand. Saw its three moons and could kinda sorta make out the planet itself. It was pretty damn nerdy but also very cool. If you can aquire a good telescope this week, the planet is probably still close enough you can make out the surface yourself.
Cried at a baseball thing.
You might not know this guy but Oakland Athletic, Stephen Vogt, was probably going to retire quietly before the beginning of this past MLB season. But the A’s convinced him to play another year. You see, the team is in a rebuilding mode and didn’t have many players on the roster people knew. They needed a fan favorite (me being one of those fans) for folks to root for in what they knew was going to be a rough year.
Stephen dutifully went through the season, knowing he was going to retire. He didn’t have a great season numbers, but came through with many dramatic hits.
And then. On the final at-bat of his career, this happened:
The pure joy is too much.🥲
It went on while I was a work so I couldn’t have a beer live, but I did later while watching that clip maybe 50 times and coming to tears nearly every viewing. Cheers, Stephen Vogt, I will always believe.😭
Went well with a couple Pales.
I love soup. I love beer. This should work?
Soup & beer pairing still feels wrong. But I would like to try some black bean with a hazy.
I Gotta Get Goin’
Are you planning anything with your beers this week? Did you do something you love with a beer by your side recently? I wouldn’t mind hearing about it in the comments.
Thank you for the read! Hope the week treats you well!
