I Drank Beer From A BAG!
Hey there, you,
Welcome back to Drinking & Thinking. Here are a few things to start with I thought worthy of a beer nerd's inbox this week:
Did you know that they call beer coasters "mats" across the pond? Yeah, I guess so. The blog Boak and Bailey share the history of mats. They started in Germany in 1880, produced by Friedrich Horn. Later, another German, Robert Sputh, made them thicker so they could soak up more beer.
This week's Music To Drink To features a new album by Bob Dylan "Rough and Rowdy Ways" and a sort of new one by Neil Young called "Home Grown". I have not been too into either dude previously but I have been listening to folk music a little bit recently and all the music media I follow have been pushing these two this week. So okay, I'll try them. The track with the most buzz off of Dylan's is "Key West" - definitely works for a mellow late-night beer or a relaxed mid-afternoon. Neil's album is actually some old previously released stuff, made during his prime. Check a review at Pitchfork. Also have a look at a post from Uproxx, Dylan vs. Young.
A show I'm All In On is the new HBO show, Perry Pason. It's definitely not the show I watched every day in reruns as a kid. I love Perry in this new version. At the end of the first episode, Perry is drunk, knocking around his house in a way I relate to. A real way you rarely see on TV or film. I haven't seen beer in the show yet but I'll be watching for sure.
I always enjoy Em Sauter's Pints and Panels drawings. Here is a recent one featuring the Galaxy Hop.
The Beer Garden View of the Week comes from Montana: Map Brewing. Next time I'm around Bozeman, I'm making my way there:
My Can Art Favorite this week is Mister Foggers Neighborhood from Humble Sea Brewing. I have done some asking around about who does their can art and nobody is talking. The artist definitely seems inspired by Robert Crumb.
Here is a backroad that Shelter In Place has put me on: I enjoyed beer from a bag today. Yep. And it was delivered to my door in 30 minutes. While looking for lunch options on Door Dash, I noticed you could get BJ's Brewhouse beer delivered too. One of the packaging options is a 128 oz. bag of beer. I chose Piranha Pale because I felt like it would be the easiest to drink by myself. I have been drinking from it all weekend and it doesn't look like I'm going to finish it. Decent beer. Excellent value. Fun novelty.
Alright, well, I'm Mikey Seay and I hope you enjoyed issue #7 of Drinking & Thinking! If this is your first time here, please considering subscribing. I also have started a Ko-fi if you want to check it out.
Cheers and be safe out there!
